What Do You Want to Be When You Grow Up?

It’s the first of all problems for a man to find out what kind of work he is to do in this universe.

-Thomas Carlyle

Every week I meet people frustrated because they don’t feel they have found the right career fit. Their earnest desire is more satisfying work. How has it come to this? How have they missed it?

Many formulas exist for finding the work you were meant to do. Much of the information is helpful. But there really isn’t a—just add water and … presto!—type of solution. There is no silver bullet. It is going to be a process. Therein lies the problem. We are easily distracted and deterred by the concerns of everyday life. Time goes by, and we feel no closer to fulfilling our life purpose than we did a year ago, five years ago.

It will take sometimes small but meaningful steps to discover your purpose and steer your career in a more fulfilling direction.

Stay the course. Don’t give up on the dream. You will finish without regret.
